Make-up Collaboration: Valentine’s Date Look

I feel like it has been AGES since my last FOTD post! But 2012 was an amazing year and 2013 is going pretty well.

Ahem ahem..the inevitable has come! It’s Valentine’s Day and whether you will be going out with a date or not, there’s absolutely no reason for you to not look your prettiest on heart’s day. :)

For my first official make-up post this year, I have teamed up with five other lovely bloggers. We have created different looks befitting for anyone who wants to look fresh, blooming and oh so in love! Check ‘em all out.

Jannie, Eyah, Michelle, Joyce, Misha

VDAY BANNER

Okay, so I am NOT saying I know a lot about them but being in engineering I have been with a handful of men..the rowdiest of the bunch (but I adore you guys to bits..BEST buds EVER!). And I tell you, they know NOTHING of make-up and boys tend to like girls with less make-up on. Basically, they would be happier to see a polished version of ourselves. :)

Sikrito

For this look, I stayed away from strong brows (used a light hand to tame ‘em), bold lips and lashes. One of the few looks I have done with no falsies on. Which means something because I am extremely addicted to that stuff. But if you want to add length, you can cheat ‘em by using individual lashes and a few coats of mascara.

If you can’t stay away from color, you can always use a lip color of your choice. And if you’re sockets are near invisible (like mine), nude-ish eyeshadows to create a subtle crease will work like magic.

PRODUCTS USED

Neutrogena BB Cream
Revlon PhotoReady Foundation (Nat Beige)
Nichido Brow Pencil
SanSan Cream Eyeshadow Trio 01
Urban Decay Naked2 (Tease, Busted)
Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Liner
Nichido Concealer Pencil (on waterline)
Fanny Serrano Eyelash Curler
Maybelline HyperCurl Mascara
MaxFactor Lipstick (will update you on the shade!)

I am a strong believer that the eyeliner can do wondrous things. Really, it makes such a HUGE difference! And because I wanted to look “awake” in this look, I used the oldest trick in the book: skintone colored eyeliner on the waterline and dark brown eyeshadow on the lower lashline. Although most would use white eyeliner, it would look too obvious in person. Best to leave that one for use during photoshoots.

DOMO Love

Meet my date on VDay! Ahahaha..Domo-kun has been by my side every step of the way! While I was busy mentally preparing (aka sleeping) for the board, Domo-kun took my spot and memorized all these formulas for me. He’s the reason why I passed. Hahaha!

DOMO

RANDOM! But that’s it. Just remember to keep your makeup clean and simple. Moisturize, highlight, and add subtle pops of color on the eyes and lips.

A BIG BIG THANKS to Jannie from Jannieology for making me part of this project. :) Great girl with a big heart. And to the girls who are in this with me, stay gorgeous yall!

TARGET ACQUIRED: Makeup Tools & Accessories

I think I almost have all the makeup that I need. And now I am on the hunt for some quality makeup tools and accessories to help organize my humble little collection.

We don’t have many makeup/beauty stores here in Iligan, that’s why I always resort to buying these online. But you will never know the quality of these items with pictures alone. That’s why I do tons of research before buying them and even before I add them to my Wishlist. Product reviews, video tutorials, customer feedbacks..the works. I go through all of them before considering buying a product.

Today, I’m going to share some of the Makeup Tools & Accessories that made it to my list. :) And I’m happy to say that I’ll be buying a few of them after I settle down at Cebu. Yay!

1. Makeup Traincase

Whenever I get asked to do someone’s makeup, it’s always a pain to me to find a way to safely pack all of my makeup stuff in one travel bag. T.T My collection is not that big yet, but these items do cost a fortune! And they have sentimental value. So they only deserve the best and proper storage.

Suesh VV Cases Valene (Pink), P2400+SF SHOP HERE

Suesh VV Cases Red Peony, P3500+SF SHOP HERE

Suesh VV Cases Stylish Makeup Bag, P3500+SF SHOP HERE

That last one is a show stopper! But OMG look at that price!

2. Brush Roll

I almost always buy individual brushes. I don’t know. It just seems that they’re better than the ones in a set. The problem with this though, is that they don’t come with their own brush bag. It would even be a greater hassle to keep them in their original packaging! So…

All these are from Fab Manila and are only for P395 each! I haven’t found any other brush rolls that are as lovely (and cheap) as this! :D

3. Brush Guards

Same reason as number two. :) Besides, the brush guards that come with brushes are made of plastic and it annoys me as hell whenever they stick on the ferrules! Brush guards are perfect for maintaining the shape of your brushes especially during drying brushes after a good long wash.

4. Brush Set

I know. I know. I have a lot of brushes already..but..but..I don’t have many face and eye brushes. :D And these just look pretty and tempting..haha!

WISHLIST: Fuschia Lipstick

I don’t know why I have this fascination for everything and anything pink, but you have to admit a pink lipstick would look glorious on any skin tone! :D

Since I’m a bit morena, I think a Fuschia will look best on me. I have the NYX Lipliner in Fuschia and I LOVE it! The color is surprisingly flattering on me! Although Fuschia is a strong color, it does not overwhelm my face at all.

Here’s a list of Hot Pink Lippies I would like to try! :)

Lime Crime Opaque Lipstick in Centrifuschia

Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in Fuschia

Barry M Lip Paint in Punky Pink

Sleek Pout Paint in Pinkini

NYX Xtreme Lip Cream in Dolly Girl

Knowing myself, I think I’d buy just one or two from this set. I don’t wear make-up everyday nor am I a make-up artist so I really don’t see the need to keep more than one of the same colored lipstick. This goes for other make-up products as well. :)

Anyhoo, hope you enjoyed the PINK-ness of this post. If you have a list of to-die-for lippies, drop by my Ask Box and let me see! :)

Smokey Browns Eye Make-up

Here’s a post on my make-up during our shoot for djaDesigns. :) Nothing special really. Just smokey brown eyes with two toned pink lips. So let’s start! Please see the pictures above for reference.

First off, I primed my lids with the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk. Using a fluffy crease brush, I applied a matte warm brown shade all over the crease. A matte black eyeshadow is then used to further define the crease and the outer v as well. You can use a pencil brush or even an angled eyeliner brush to do this. Remember to flick the brush upwards (towards the brow bone) to blend.

To create the smokey look, get a clean fluffy blending brush and apply a matte dark brown on top of the black. Blend blend blend away!

Lastly, use a shimmery Peach eyeshadow and with your beauty finger, apply this starting on the center of the lids towards the inner corner of the eyes. Line upper lashline and waterline. Curl lashes, apply mascara, and glue on HUGE lashes!

Now for the two toned lips, I used NYX Lipliner in Fuschia to line and then filled in the rest of the lips with NYX Round Lipstick in Fig. Use a lip brush to blend the two colors together. :)

This is something I would totally wear for a party or any evening event for that matter. Plus, this eye make-up is so versatile! Try experimenting different kinds of lip color with this on and it would still look polished and put together. :)

Evening Colorful Summer Make-up

This is the exact same make-up I did on Carla during our shoot for djaDesigns. :) Because she was gonna wear something serious, I decided to play up her eye make-up by adding some color.

I hope the close-up shot is enough for you to see how I did this one. Basically, I used a shimmery Yellow eyeshadow in the inner third of the lid, followed by a matte Yellow in the middle, then a Hot Pink eyeshadow on the outer third. I mirrored these colors on the lower lashline just to balance the whole thing.

The outer V was extremely defined to add depth and drama to match her outfit that day. So I just started with a matte Warm Brown all over the crease, used a pointed brush to add a Matte Black on the outer V and finally blending the black with a matte Dark Brown eyeshadow. Line the upper lashline, upper and lower waterline. Add tons of mascara and to finish the eye make-up, apply flasies!

For the lips I used NYX Lipliner in Rose, Ever Bilena Matte Lipstick in Pink Flame with a tiny bit of NYX Round Lipstick in Tea Rose on top.

I’l be doing an FOTD with my make-up next. :)

Anyhoo, what do you think of the close-up shot of my eye make-up? Should I be doing this for the rest of my FOTD posts? Yay or nay?

And oh, notice the Handcuff Short Necklace I’m wearing? You can have one of your own! Just visit djaDesigns or streetchiconline. Or you can join my SECRET MESSAGE Contest! Read the end of the giveaway post (link provided below) to know how. ;)

CHARM Essentials Flat Top Brush

This has got to be the densest and softest brush I ever have! And one of the most expensive too. :) Honestly, I would have never bought this brush if my Papa didn’t give me the money to do so. Haha! But he did, so I purchased it and my oh my I never regretted it EVER! Besides, I got the brush during Multiply’s Free Shipping promo so I got this amazing piece for what’s it worth. :D

PRICE

Maybe for someone who is just starting out with make-up it would be a bit expensive. But if you are planning to pursue the hobby (and even go as far as making a steady income out of it) then this should definitely be in your collection! Good make-up starts with the right quality tools. :) For the price, it’s a 4 out of 5.

PACKAGING

Ooh! I love it! It comes in a pretty pink box which is pictured in Photo Number 4. The back side of the box is also printed with information about the product and washing instructions to properly take care of your brushes. Sweet! Oh, did I mention it’s pink? :D A 5 out of 5 for me!

QUALITY/APPEARANCE

Gosh where do I start? There’s sooo much to tell! Seriously I can’t think of anything bad about the Flat Top Brush. But let’s start with the handle. Before I thought of buying this, I looked up reviews about it first. And when I finally got mine, the handle looked shorter than the pictures I saw. So when I raised this issue to Sophie (owner of Charm Essentials/Beauty&Minerals), she said that they did redesign the brush with a shorter handle for a more dense application. :) Ooh! What you see here is Version 2 of the Charm Essentials Flat Top Brush. Good thing the color is still the same. Pastel Pink is LOVE!

The bristles are EXTREMELY SOFT! My goodness! I can use this on my face all day. It’s also made of synthetic fibers so it works well with liquid, cream and powder products. I couldn’t ask for more. T^T I’d give the Flat Top Brush a 6 out of 5 if I have to! Sorry, quality wise this definitely gets a 5 out of 5! :D

PERFORMANCE

I have been using the Flat Top Brush like crazy since I got it and it works wonders when I use it to buff the Krave Mineral Foundation on my face. :) I tried using it with liquid foundation as well and I have never seen my face look so flawless.

Washed this a couple of times too and get this, no shedding or bleeding whatsoever. The shape of the bristles also remained the same. PERFECT! 5 out of 5!

Would I buy this again? If I have the money, YES!!!

Would I recommend this product? A BIG YES. The quality and versatility of this brush is AMAZING. Nay..LEGEN..wait for it..DARY! (Sorry. Been watching HIMYM S01-S06 the whole week!)

Great make-up doesn’t only depend on what eye or face product you use. It starts with great tools and the proper techniques. So INVEST ON QUALITY MAKE-UP BRUSHES!

Unlike my previous FOTD posts, here I listed ALL of the products that I usually use on my face, including the skin care bit of the whole foundation routine. It’s especially important to clean and moisturize your face first before using any make-up because this will help make a smooth canvass for the foundation to stick on. Using a moisturizer before your foundation will also make the product (foundation) feel like its part of your skin. Not only will it look more natural, it will feel that way too. Seriously, you should try it!
More notes on this look: This time, I tried contouring my nose with a subtle brown E/S. Ugh..well, I’m not feeling it. What do you think?

HOT PINK NAILS! :D
Yeesss! Who doesn’t love pink? I feel like Barbie wearing these on! And please do excuse the extra skin you see under my fingers. I have been playing my guitar lately. :) Anyhoo, I bought three Elianto Nail Colors (Hot Pink, Black, White) a few months back. But, I only got to show one of ‘em today. Wore these for our college’s “Glow In the Dark” Party. :D
Aside from the lovely color, this polish is so opaque! One swipe and you get the color that’s exactly on the bottle. You can skip clear nail polish as well (it’s super shiny on its own). But for added protection, you just go right ahead and do that. :D
